Second Semester English II
During the second semester of English II, we will be exploring our school's theme "Exploration & Invention" through some of the readings we will be discussing. The first unit is a short story & poetry unit, with the overarching topic of exploring the unknown wilderness. After delving into these poems and short stories, students will write their own poetry and short stories dealing with issues of the unknown. The second unit will be reading pieces published by pioneers in teen writing and students will analyze, critique, and evaluate these pieces along with their classmates' original works. Lastly, we will finish the semester off with a drama unit where students will have the opportunity to perform parts of A Raisin in the Sun, as well as some of their drama productions. The course aim is to increase students' familiarities with a wide variety of literary and nonliterary texts, as well as different writing formats and genres.
